Central Registration

We welcome you and your child to our kindergarten program!  Kindergarten is an important time in your child’s life.  It is the beginning of a journey designed to prepare your child for success and instill a lifelong love of learning.

Please note that all required documentation must be submitted promptly for orientation and screening appointments.  Registration is not complete until the registration form, as well as all documentation has been submitted and approved by Central Registration.

1. Click this link to begin registering your child for the 2024-2025 school year.  If this is the first child you are registering in the Longwood School District via the PowerSchool online registration form, you will be required to create a PowerSchool Registration account before you can proceed. This account can be used to register any other children in the future as well. Please Note: This is NOT a PowerSchool Parent Portal account username or password.  If you have registered a child previously via the PowerSchool online registration process, please log in with the email address and password used to create your account.  If you have forgotten your password, please utilize the "forgot password" feature located on the login screen.

3. Print completed form after you receive the “form completed” message.
    
4. Gather all mandatory documentation as noted in the application.
    
5. You will receive an email message from the District Central Registration in reference to the required documentation needed to complete the registration or enrollment process and its submission.

IMPORTANT: THE REGISTRATION PROCESS IS NOT COMPLETE UNTIL THE REGISTRATION FORM AND ALL DOCUMENTATION IS SUBMITTED AND APPROVED BY THE DISTRICT CENTRAL REGISTRATION. 

Technical Support is provided by PowerSchool Enrollment as follows: 

If a parent needs assistance with completing the online form, there is a “Help” button on the right side of the PowerSchool Enrollment screen that provides technical support via email or phone. Parents have access to the “Help” link after they have created their online account. At this point in the registration process, the technical support is provided by PowerSchool Enrollment Registration, the online/off-site vendor.  Central Registration does not have access to the account before the online registration is completed.

Resident students who attend private or parochial school must register in the school district in order to receive transportation and/or textbooks. Please note that all students attending private and/or parochial schools need to provide proof of residency each year.  If a student moves during the school year, please notify the District as soon as possible to update your student records.  Please see the Transportation Department HERE for more information regarding transportation to a private school.

2023-24 Online Registration is Open

Online registration will take approximately 20-30 minutes for the first child and less time for siblings in the same household. If you need to step away, be sure to save your session and log back in to resume registration.

Follow the steps below to begin your child's registration process:

1. To start the online registration process, gather the necessary documentation listed below.  All documentation must be uploaded to PowerSchool Enrollment.

• Provide one of the following documents to establish proof of residency: a Town of Brookhaven tax bill, a deed, mortgage statement; if renting, a lease and two utility bills (PSEG and phone/water bill), or the district's Affidavit of Landlord, plus proof of landlord's ownership, i.e., tax bill/deed.  Click this link for the Landlord Affidavit form.
• An original birth certificate with a raised seal or a passport.
• Immunization dates from a physician signed or a previous school.
• As of June 13, 2019, there is no longer a religious exemption to the requirement that children be vaccinated against measles and other diseases to attend public, private, or parochial school. Children who do not have the required immunizations must receive the first dose of vaccinations 14 days from the start of school.  Within 30 days of the first day of school, parents must show they have made appointments for all required follow-up doses.  
• Transfer or discharge notice from the former school district (except kindergarten).
• If a student has a disability, an IEP is required.

3.  You will receive an email message from Central Registration regarding the status of your submission.

Enrollment: The process the district uses to accept new students
 
Verification: An annual review of all current information the district has for existing enrolled students.
 
Residency: Proof that students attending Longwood Schools live within the geographic boundaries of the  District (New families are required to prove residency during enrollment).
 
Household: All members of a family that live together under one roof.
 
Guardian: A person with a legally established relationship to a student who is responsible for the student's care and well-being (only a guardian who lives with a student can complete enrollment or verification for that student).
 
Emergency Contact: Someone who may assume short-term responsibility for a student in case the guardian cannot be reached.
 
Non-Household Relationship: A person connected to the student who is not part of the student's household. This may include emergency contacts and guardians who do not live full-time with the student.
 
Enrollment Year: The school year in which the enrolling student will start school
If a student will start school in October 2022, their enrollment year will be 22-23, because the school year ends in 2021.

If a student will start school in March 2022, their enrollment year will be also be 21-22. 

Students who are in transitional housing have the right to attend Longwood even if they are temporarily living outside of the district; if they were permanently housed in Longwood prior to being in transitional housing. Students in transitional housing are entitled to free transportation to and from school. They have the right to participate in all school activities with transportation to and from these activities, if it is provided to other students. They have the right to receive special education services immediately if they have a current IEP. They have the right to receive free meals without filling out an application. Services are available up to 21 years of age.

A student living in transitional housing is anyone who, due to lack of housing, lives:

• In an emergency or transitional shelter.
• In a motel, hotel, trailer park, or campground. 
• In a car, park, public place, bus or train station, or in an abandoned building.
• Living in the home of a relative or friend due to lack of housing.
• Unaccompanied as a youth in a homeless situation, not in the physical custody of a parent or guardian.
• As a migratory child in any of the above conditions.
